How can multiple chanels be sent to a sub mix? So I can control their levels together and apply plugs that will effect a whole group. You should also be able to route a submix to an alternate output.
How is it done in SX3?
Also, i have been drawing in automation by hand. How can I record the cc movements from an external controller to the automation of vsts etc? Sorry for the un-ending questions here...

Re: Submixing... and an automation question
Mon, March 3, 2008 - 8:10 AMsorry man, i gotta say RTFM on both of those questions... the manual is very clear on how to do both... remember that the manual is a PDF file, so you can search for keywords to make it easy... -l- -

Re: Submixing... and an automation question
Tue, March 4, 2008 - 12:20 PMyou should be able to find it in the html help file directly from the software. i use that almost as much as i do my I/O connections.
the short version is you create a new group channel and then change the output of each channel you want in that group to go to the group channel instead of your I/O interface.
i'm using a tascam U-122 i/o interface. all the channels have that as the selected output so i can hear my tracks through the interface. when i create a drumset sub mix i add a group track, then go to each individual track of the drumset and change the output to the group channel. it also helps to rename your group channel so you can keep track of them more easily.
it's either via the output or you use the Sends settings to send the multiple tracks to the group channel i can't remember which. i'm doing this from memory as i just moved and don't have my daw running yet. talk about getting itchy to record... -

Re: Submixing... and an automation question
Tue, March 4, 2008 - 12:22 PMi think if you enable Write automation (the red W button next to record enable) it will record your controller actions in real time. i've found it easier to enable Read and fine tune what i want to have for automation so i haven't got that far yet. -

Re: Submixing... and an automation question
Tue, March 11, 2008 - 10:42 AMdamien, you answered correctly for both questions.
To make an alternate "Buss" for sending stems to a single fader, you right click on the arrange window or use the taskbar up top and "Add Group Channel"
name it something familiar, then open your mixer "F3" and expand it to full view by hitting the little "+" button in the top left corner. This will display your ins and outs, for the output, click the dropdown and select your group channel, it's just that easy.
For the automation from a controller on VST Instrument paramaters, open the instrument itself and hit the "R" and the "W" (not on the midi track, this won't do anything but automate velocity, aftertouch, track volume and pan, this has to be done on the instrument or plug-in view page) Next, activate the little red record dot on your midi track so the controller knows which midi track is being controlled, then press Play on the sequencer and twist the knobs during playback.
When you're done, disable the "W" and you should be able to see your knobs moving for you. Then you can open up the controller lane on the Instrument track in your arrange window to see the curves, then you can edit to taste. -

Re: Submixing... and an automation question
Mon, April 14, 2008 - 10:57 AMalso, if for instance you have a midi controller that set up to manipulate a function on a vst like say cutoff... you can do one of two things, you can A.) record the midi data of you moving the knob, or....b. There's a function if you go into preferences>midi>midi controller data to automation tracks. That will take whatever you have midi learned and turn it directly into automation so you can edit it further.
