I'm just starting to learn how to use Cubase because LE came bundled with the Alesis io14 external audio driver I bought. My question is simple. Is it alright for me to post my concerns in this forum? ie. Is LE a more basic form of SX and will the members be able (or willing) to help me out?

There are a lot of the Steinberg Tech Support guys on there and questions are usually answered fairly quickly.
Although LE is a basic form of Cubase and they are all related, it's actually a stripped down version (but not by much) of the SE series.
