SevEral questions Tangling my Mind...

Here are a few questions riddling my brain. Maybe yall can help me?

Is there an easier way (than this: www.youtube.com/watch )to sidechain effects in SX3?
I mean JeeZe! That's anoying. Even following the steps in this tutorial, I don't really get a sidechain. I don't have the "compadre" compressor used in the video, just the compressor bundled with cubase, maybe I am doing it wrong?

Is there a way to run Logic's ES1 from within Cubase?

Why does the vb-1 produce so many high frequency clicks? Is there any way around this without having to make it sound "soft"?
Are ther 2 versions of the vb-1? I have heard rumors of a silver colored one that doesn't produce clicks.

Are all audio tracks monophonic? Which is to say, can they only play one audio clip at a time. Overlaping segmants are not combined.

Well...

I think that is about it. I am getting the hang of cubase, and I am enjoying it much. I would love to upgrade to cubase 4, but It sounds like a nightmare of crashes etc. Maybe i will hold out for cubase 5 or 6.

Thanks for your help.

You can only truly sidechain in Cubase 4, SX3 doesn't truly sidechain.

"Is there a way to run Logic's ES1 from within Cubase?"

No, Logic uses AU and Cubase uses VST, 2 completely different formats.

Don't know, but I think it sounds like ass either way... ;P

True, but not necessarily monophonic, but you have the right idea. If you want to mix the segments you have to have them on seperate tracks and bounce them together (like having two seperate sounds on a tape machine) into one file or you can crossfade the segments. I have always thought it would be useful to have two sounds on one channel mix together too, but if you drop multiple files into one area on one track, their summed volume might accidentally blow up your speakers, so maybe its not such a great idea after all...

I haven't heard people complain regularly about crashes for almost a year. That is to say that I'm sure it still crashes, but I doubt it's Cubase 4 more than peoples' computers. In fact I am moving my system over completely to Cubase 4 this weekend becuase I want to take advantage of the media bay and the ability to side chain.

      Well...
I hope you aren't running a Mac. Check out the cubase.net forum. It isn't looking pretty. And the problems aren't just in the past, they are very real current issues. Ofcourse, the problems are only affecting mac users, like your post suggests.

Anyhow, bummer no real sidechaining, that's real important. Dpes that youtube tutorial method really work? Does anyone here do it?

If not, I may have to rewire from Logic (or the otherway around).

Can anyone let me know what that involves?

Thanks for your help, I got a chuckle out of your vb1 comentary. Yes, it isn't a brilliant thing, but with the right processing and treatment, it can be a usefull sub base.

heh, well I have a Macbook and I will be installing it this weekend as well... its not my "main" system, just something to have portable just in case.
There's an old adage about not changing your system before or during a big project; I'm ignoring that and starting a movie project in a bout a month and praying Cubase 4 doesn't shit the bed for me... at least I'll have a month to figure it out and switch back to SX3 (which works marvelously for laying audio to video btw)

          Well good luck....

You can test the water for us wussies, and report back about how it goes for you.

I have heard the 4.1 UPDATE cuases even more havoc. You may want to just stick with 4.0 if you can. Check out the cubase.net forum.

Keep it bonker my friend and have fun with your project.

Can anyone else answer any of those questions, eh?

Is there a way to bounce audio clips on seperate tracks to a single file without resorting to an "audio mixdown" from the export menu?

What is the easiest way to turn midi into audio? Is there a way to do it without exporting to an audio file, and then importing the new file?

Can aNYONE HELP ME UNDERSTAND THE omf FORMAT? wHAT GETS SAVED? dOES IT MIX EVERYTHING DOWN TO AUDIO? od YOU RETAIN PLUG IN DATA?

This way I can do destructive audio manipulations with automation, without much more work than running the pluggin the static way through the "audio/ pluggins" drop down menu.
